SOHSET District Meeting - January 10th, 2010

Please take a few moments to read this brief summary from the SOHSET District meeting on Sunday, January 10th:

SOHSET Poster Fundraiser

A big "Thanks" to Sarah, Marissa and Teague for selling ads for the SOHSET poster fundraiser. Do you know of a local business that might purchase a business card sized add on the SOHSET Poster? Business card adds can be purchased for $100 or a double sized ad for $200. If so, we need to collect the company's business card and check made out to SOHSET by January 20th. Please let Todd know if you can sell an add. We really need to sell at least one more add!

More Gatekeepers & Scribes Needed for Sundays

We may need to add a Sunday gaming event to our team's arena responsibilities. This could require a Gatekeeper to check in athletes, two gate tenders for the entry and exit gates, and few “rakers” to groom the course. We'll know more before our first meet, but we should be prepared to take on a gaming event.

Decide Your Events by Thursday, Jan 21st

I will submit our Meet 1 roster after our practice on Thursday, Jan 21st. Check here to view your latest class registrations. Please contact Todd to modify your class schedule.

Extra Stalls and Camper Sites

Please let Todd know if you will be need more than one stall at the meet or would like a camper slip at the meet. I need this information by January 21st.

Working Rancher Clinic

Due to the difficulty in building the Working Rancher course (cows, bales, shrubs and posts) the District will set up the Working Rancher course at prior to the first meet to give athletes the opportunity to experience the pattern prior to competition.

OHSET / SOHSET Scholarships due in April

Seniors should consider applying for the SOHSET & OHSET scholarships as they apply for scholarships this spring. SOHSET applications are due before the 3rd meet and OHSET applications are due April 28th. More details to come.

Athlete Registration Down Significantly

SOHSET registration will be at 116 athletes, which is down from more than 150 riders just a couple of years ago. With an operating budget of approximately $40,000 per year, the athlete's $155 District fees are significantly less than the per athlete cost of competition and awards. Fewer athletes will also require more district fundraising, parent involvement to run our meets and support for our teams.

State Meet

All teams must participate on the State Meet committee as we host this year's State Championships. We can support the State meet by helping plan logistics, set-up the facilities, work the welcome booth, contribute local items to the District's silent auction basket and other tasks. More details on the State Meet to come.

Wild Rogue Pro Rodeo

Five (5) Ashland athletes can get free passes to the Wild Rogue Pro Rodeo when they help clean the Compton Arena after the event. Contact Todd for details.
